If I could turn back time.

I woke up this morning with the chorus “If I could turn back time.”  going through my head.  I am clearly lamenting the fact that it is now August.  I think I say it every summer – but it just all went by too quickly.

I had dreams of adventures and long porch sits.  I had hopes of grand projects that mostly involved cleaning out what I have taken to calling “THE PIT”.  And enjoy a summer of rest and relaxation!

I did none of that.

Here is what I did do…

Carted kids S & T to girls camp, law camp, and EFY.

Taught Kinsey how to get a job.

Taught Sydney how to drive.

Worked on math.

Nagged about summer reading assignments.

Registered K for College classes.

Made list upon list of what we needed to buy and pack for college.

Bought so much stuff online that I am pretty sure when we go to Heather’s to retrieve it in 3 weeks it will feel like Christmas.

Cut quilt squares out of all of K’s high school t-shirts.

Threw a massive 4th of July party – because it may be our last with K for a long time.

Trained my Stake on how to run a Facebook Page.

Had my 19th Wedding anniversary at a crazy BBQ joint named Hammer Heads – ordered the absolutely wrong thing and listened to Todd complain that I never look at menus and I didn’t get mad. I laughed. Cause after 19 years – he is probably right.

Walked into K’s room and discovered her closet was half packed – and had to walk back out so I could spend the rest of the day a blubbering mess.

Conducted a hostage exchange for my stolen iPad

Tatie went to her first church dance.

Said goodbye to 3 good friends.

Juggled 3 clients

And went on my first ever business trip.

It definitely wasn’t the summer I dreamed of, by a long shot.  But I need to stop lamenting what it wasn’t and embrace what it was – busy, messy and full.  And it was wonderful in it’s own way.

  1. I totally get your theme song.

We do the imminent daily and live in the land of hopes and dreams for the rest.
