I hope you enjoyed Kinsey’s solo performance yesterday. She rocked, didn’t she?! And now thanks to the wonderful editing power of my home PC, was able to piece together a decent recording of Sydney’s debut solo in the choir concert!!! I had to use Dad’s video coupled with my audio and there is only a little feedback from the mics the girls were holding too close together, but all in all it turned out good enough for posterity. So here is a little background for you on Sydney’s performance.
Some of you know that Sydney had an absolutely abysmal experience her 5th grade year in choir. Her elementary choir teacher was…well this is a family blog and I am going to refrain from saying what she was. So when it came time to sign up for classes in middle school Sydney was VERY reluctant to join choir. It took some convincing but we got her to sign up. And boy did she work hard! And living with Miss Kinsey just made those competitive juices, Sydney was born with in spades, really go into overdrive.
In late November Kinsey was given the RESPECT solo for choir and very enthusiastically shouted it from the roof tops. It only took a few weeks before everyone started saying “I can’t wait to come and see your concert Kinsey!” Which was wonderful, but as Sydney pointed out one afternoon, “Mom, its my concert too. Don’t they know they are coming to see me too?” I told her that of course they knew, but that Kinsey was getting this special opportunity and everyone was just excited for her. This didn’t settle well with Syd. (Anyone surprised by that? I didn’t think so.) She brought her music home the next day and said, “Mom, I have to get a solo too! That way everyone will know they are coming to see both of us!”
And that was the start. Sydney learned every solo opportunity available to the 6th grade choir. Finally it came down to one last song. “MOM!” she said, “I have to get this one!” And so we worked. And Worked and worked and worked! From the early days of January until just last Friday. Morning and night she sang, the same few verses over and over again, driving Todd nearly out of his gourd! In April she auditioned for her solo and got it! We were so happy for her. And through it all her vocal talents were improving by leaps and bounds! She trotted up on stage Friday and blew everyone away! She was AMAZING! So here she is, singing the largest solo the 6th grade choir had in their whole program. YOU ROCK SYDI!!!!
