End of summer blues

School starts tomorrow and I can’t tell you enough that this summer has been FAR TOO SHORT! *sigh* I do enjoy having my children home. I listen at church to all the women excited to send their children off to school to get some “peace”. Is it weird that I prefer them home? I send them to school for their own good, certainly not for mine. They are really excited to go to school this year, it seems as though everyone got the teachers they wanted and the schedules they wanted and friends in class they wanted to have. Not to mention the fetching new clothes, shoes, and school supplies waiting to be unveiled on those first few days of school. I am glad they are excited, it makes me happy to see them love school.

All that mopiness aside, we have had quite the hoopla this week! On Friday after Cross Country practice Sydney complained of very sore and tender hamstrings. And then promptly proceeded to play in a neighborhood game of capture the flag where she ignored the gentle urgings of her legs to sit and relax resulting in not one but 2 pulled hamstrings! The left is more severe then the right as it is torn a bit but they are both strained. She will be starting her first day of school tomorrow on crutches. Oy.

Kinsey is still recovering from a bike accident she had two weeks ago. Her elbow has still not healed and today had to be x-rayed to make sure it wasn’t broken. We are very lucky that it wasn’t. Instead she has to wear a bandage in her arm for the rest of the week to allow it some good protected elbow healing time.

And finally Tatie, dear sweet Tatie and her bestie Sammy have decided to give each other the flu. They have influenza virus somethingorother and will not be able to go to their first day of school!!!! And perhaps not even the second day!!!! Its August! Not flu season! Someone tell her she is not allowed to be sick on the first day of school!

I shake my head in wonder some days how these things seem to happen all at once. Like last week when Todd got home from a meeting out and one of the children overflowed the toilet upstairs and water raining through the kitchen ceiling. While I stood on a chair holding a towel to the leaking and Todd cleaned up up stairs Sydney came running in saying Tatie fell. So outside Todd and I run bare foot and scared to find Tatie had fallen in a concrete ditch around the corner. Todd carried her out and laid her on the grass (accidentally next to doggie doo which ended up being very funny) and I ran back to the house to get the car to carry her home. Once home she was cleaned up and then Kinsey fell off her bike. I am not exactly sure what did it, perhaps the running, perhaps so much stress in such a short amount of time (the duration of these events lasted no more than an hour!) but I then hear the tale tell sound of Todd’s inhaler clicking. He had an attack.

So is it any wonder that when we were in the doctor’s office today and he says…this strain of influenza is very contagious, if the other two begin to have symptoms call me right away and we will get them on tamiflu. I turned to my beautiful and injured girls and said, oh no you don’t, Momma has had quite enough for this week.

  1. AMEN. I totally understand your “back to school” feelings! And Tatie gets to be the new girl when she finally goes back to school in a few days. God bless us one and all.

  2. What a week! I hope the next one goes better….

I can’t believe that you guys are going back to school already. In the northeast, school never starts till after Labour Day . I often wonder why that is….

And good for you, for revelling in a summer home together with your girls. Personally, I think it’s because you haven’t forgotten how to play!
