For years I have longed for a time when the girls could camp out in the back yard under the stars the way I did when I was a kid.  When we lived in Louisville our home was not fenced and so back yard camp outs had to be supervised by Dad because of the pesky neighborhood boys that lived a few houses down and couldn’t seem to leave our yard be.  So as soon as I opened the back door of this house and saw the privacy fence the very first thoughts to go through my head involved sleeping bags and gazing at shooting stars.

Last night that dream became a reality!  The heat wave we have been suffering through over the last month finally broke and we spent the evening talking and laughing on the back porch while the girls wrote letters to their cousins.  When it came time for bed Sydney had been having such a lovely time she asked if she could just sleep outside on the back porch.  I said SURE!  And pretty soon the other two followed suit.  Todd blew up air matresses and they all gathered their pillows and sleeping bags and headed out for the night.  We thought for sure that one of them would end up coming in at some point in the night.  But no one did.  When Todd headed off for work this morning he found Kinsey (who had been the most hesitant about the adventure) happily reading her book (The Uglies) still cuddled up on her outdoor bed.  They recounted seeing 3 shooting stars and couldn’t wait to do it again!  And as a bonus they made me pancakes for breakfast.  😀

For a yummy treat try Sydney’s Invention Convention creation called “Yo Mommas” cookies.  They are the breakfast cookie that combine breakfast with the ultimate sweet treats…peanut butter and chocolate.

Simply over toast Eggo mini waffles until nice and crunchy (but not burnt).  Then break apart and create peanut butter sandwiches out of them.  Finally coat them in your favorite chocolate bark and let set.

As Sydney says they are…”Mom tested and Kid approved!”
