Mason Dixon Meet

Kinsey was very excited this year after cross country season was over.  She had made a deal with her Dad that if she were to run a full minute under her personal record at State competition than she wouldn’t have to run track.  (She HATES track, not the running, its all the WAITING!  4 hour meets in the freezing cold for 2 minutes of running.) She actually ran 2 whole minutes under her PR and was thrilled she wouldn’t have to run track this year.

During the winter time her coach offers a program called Winter Fitness.  Its a laid back after school training that lets the kids run and keep in shape in between seasons.  Kinsey enjoys this very much.  And this year the coach decided to invite her Winter Fitness team to actually compete in a Meet at the end of the season just before track was to begin.

Kinsey ran the 400m and the 800m at the Mason Dixon Games, an indoor track meet at Broad bent arena.  The track was crazy!  It was elevated wood.  Most of the kids had never run a meet on a slanted track let alone one made entirely of WOOD!  Going into this thing we thought we would be in and out in about 2 hours….4 hours into the event Kinsey ran her first race.

And 2 hours after that she ran her last race!  And the meet still wasn’t over yet!!!  We left at 10pm and they were still competing.  All that waiting was crazy!  The kids were exhausted and starving.  Kinsey did wonderful even though she was so tired.  We are very proud of her.  (And secretly glad she beat her PR last fall and doesn’t have to run track this year…waiting and waiting is for the birds!)
