We had an AMAZING meet this last Saturday in Lexington. (Though it did feel odd not to have Aunt Heather there…we missed her). Tatie and Sydney were first to race. We expected good numbers from both as they have been running 2 miles every single day after school and on the weekends. And let me tell you these girls did not disappoint! They ran their hearts out in this 3K.
Tatie came in at a personal record breaking time of 18:38! That beats her fastest time of 19:07! Not only that but Tatie beat two girls who had been bragging about their being so much faster then Tatie all year long. Not a day went by that these girls didn’t tell Tatie how they “always beat her”. It was a struggle for her all year with her over heating and asthma. But she worked and never gave up and in the end she totally BEAT both of those girls at the meet!!! Tatie came in 99th place and was in the top 100 for the first time ever. We are so proud of her! This was her first year running and she will only get better from here!
Sydney was nervous all morning. She had an amazing PR from the last race of 15:30. She slowed up a bit at state coming in at 16:01. But placed 53rd over all! We are so proud of her! This was her first year running as well and let me tell you Coach Penny (the middle school CC coach) is going to have one heck of a great runner on her hands next year! With Kinsey as an 8th grader and Sydney coming in as a 6th grader they are going to be quite a team!
Kinsey ran last for the day in the Middle school open. And as some of you know Todd and Kinsey had a bit of a side wager going. You see Kinsey hates Track. The meets are long…REALLY long. You spend the majority of the 4 hours waiting around for your race andthe rest of the time freezing to death in the spring chill. Most all of the meets are on school nights which means that she goes straight from school to the meet, freezes to death for 4 hours, barely eats anything and then comes home at 8:30 starves, frozen, and with homework still to do. All that equals= No fun. So Todd told her that if she ran the 4K in under 20 minutes she wouldn’t have to do track. She would still have to run on her own to keep in shape but she wouldn’t have to join the team. Kinsey’s previous PR was 20:43. So she needed to shave 44 seconds off of her time. and you know what…she did BETTER then that! She came in at 19:04!!! She blew her PR out of the water! Todd said she just REALLY didn’t want to do Track. Well not only did she break her PR but she came in 22nd! Top 25! She has never done that before! Top 50 yes…but NEVER top 25!
We are so proud of our girls! They showed determination, skill, and raw strength throughout the whole season. They ran rain or shine, they ran in the heat and in the freezing cold. They were amazing.
Here are the pictures from the season. The song on the video is an unreleased acoustic version of a song by Blue October called “Blue Skies”. I love it. It makes me smile and think of warm summer days watching my girls with their daddy.
