Labor Day Spectacular Spectacular

Our holiday weekend festivities (aka Labor Day Spectacular Spectacular – so named by Todd) were a hit. We decided that instead of heading out of town for the weekend (being that we had two CC meets) we would spend it at home…camping in our back yard! So we spent the money we would have spent on a campsite adding some fun elements to our back yard…namely a pop up canopy for shade and a fire pit. We had a blast!

Friday afternoon I set up the back yard for camping and then readied the house for fun, which included making 4 boxes of Mac and cheese for Tatie’s CC Meet/Potluck that evening. Tatie had a great run and then we ate dinner with the team. The girls were more than ready to start their fun in the back yard when we got home. We spent the evening around the fire pit looking at the stars and one incredibly bright moon. Everyone but me slept in the tent until about 4 am when Tatie came in to sleep in her own bed. 😀

Saturday morning we all got up and headed off to Kinsey CC meet in Shelby County. Which I kid you not took place around a corn field! The kid’s allergies were going crazy. But it turned out to be a great meet. Kinsey had a fantastic run! Gram and Papa came to cheer her on too. Then it was off to visit Grandma and Grandpa for the afternoon. And Grandma surprised Todd by making him a yummy smoothie…as opposed to the not so yummy kind he had been experiencing lately and I think his craving has finally been quenched. Kinsey was exhausted after her long day so I piled everyone back in the car and headed home. And that night we spent roasting marshmallows and making smores while Todd got regular updates on the BYU game on his iPhone. [insert eyerollage here] When BYU won he was so excited that he asked Sydney to take the BYU flag off the house and he and the girls took a victory lap around the neighborhood waving the flag…I am so not kidding! They are crazy. I tucked everyone in to bed and made sure they zipped up the tent because it looked like rain and went inside to bed.

Sure enough it rained Sunday morning. But that did not deter us! No. Todd made us breakfast on the BBQ. And you know how happy he is when he gets to BBQ. We had pancakes, eggs and sausage. It was delicious. We had a lovely day at church and then took down the tent and put everything in the garage to dry out. Then it was off to Grammy and Papas for dinner and a little catch. The girls are really improving their catching skills. And every single one of them can throw! (Though some with more accuracy then others…) Then it was home to cap off the festivities with our traditional glow stick fight in the back yard. Between the glow sticks and the lightning that was on the horizon it turned out to be an awesome sight.

Labor Day Todd and I spent the morning out and about getting Starbucks hot chocolate and taking a drive. We ended up at the Peddler’s market which turned out to be a lot bigger than we expected. It was fun to walk around and look t everything from antiques to yard sale merchandise circa 1982.

We hope you had a wonderful Spectacular Spectacular too!
