For Sydney’s sleepover weekend we had one purpose and one only…to find her a dress! It is so hard lately to find age appropriate modest dresses for tween girls! So we set out on Friday to the mall in search of such a dress. We went from one end of the place to the other with a brief stop at Godiva chocolates for a taste of heaven. And in all that shopping (after trying on nearly 30 dresses) we finally found a dress at the second to last store we went to. Sydney loves it, she was dancing around in it that evening as she showed off her find to Dad.
We also caught Harry Potter at the theater that morning…it was fantastic! Sydney invited a friend over for a sleep over that night. They had a lovely evening riding bikes, watching movies, and camping out on the back porch to sleep under the stars.
We also took Sydney on a little side trip to the store to get her a long awaited upgrade in the bike department. She opted for this stylish bright yellow mountain bike. Its a little on the large side right now but she can ride it very well and it will fit just right in no time. As soon as we got it home I expected to see Sydney jump on it and zoom around the neighborhood. Instead who do I see speeding down the drive way???
Sydney chased him around the neighborhood laughing on her old bike. Then he gave it up and walked back home. LOL I think maybe I will be adding mountain bike to Todd’s Christmas wish list! (Oh and that’s not a headlight, its just the flash reflection). She spent most of the weekend playing with the gears. Neither Todd nor I can remember the perfect suburban setting for a ten speed. But Syd is happy to figure it out on her own.
The rest of the weekend was spent working on a project that came to me courtesy of my friend Maggie’s Blog. She put up this link to Heather Bailey’s Blog who is a designer. She had this adorable pattern for headbands which afforded us an excellent teaching opportunity. I picked out some cute fabric at Walmart and spent Saturday afternoon teaching Sydney how to sew on the sewing machine. By the third headband she was a total PRO! I was so impressed with how quickly she caught on. Here she is modeling her finished product.
It was a great weekend! We had a blast spoiling our Sydney. Next weekend its Kinsey’s turn!

wow she is really grown up! you have such beautiful girls nicole! better buy todd a shotgun. the headband looks great! i might actually get around to making one soon, i down loaded the pattern too!
The only thing about the pattern is that you have to adjust it for the type of elastic you get. The elastic I found wasn’t very streatchy so we needed to make it about an inch longer then the instructions called for. Other than that its a fantastic pattern! So cute!
All I can say is Syd you are adorable.I am looking forward to our weekend.
You make a great “only child”!! Love Gram
Absolutely beautiful, talented, skills, and smarts…the complete package. No one could ask for anything more in our Sydney! or Tate or Kinsey for that matter…. thrice blessed.
