In case you haven’t heard, we have embarked on a new adventure this year. We are homeschooling Tatie. Using the BYU Independent Study High School program Tatie now works online to complete her sophomore class schedule. So far it is going very well! She gets done in plenty of time to exercise, practice piano, take voice lessons, and do anything she wants really!
We made the decision to home school this year for a lot of reasons. South is a great school. But for Tatie – she just needed something they couldn’t give her. Time. Time to spend on classes she needed more help in. Less time in classes that came easily. Time to explore talents. Time to be with friends. Time is just something we could not take for grated any longer.
BYU offers us a competitive accredited program with real academics. If she decides to ever go back to South she will go back with the credits she has earned from BYU. If she opts to stay with BYU she will likely finish High School a year early. (Not because she is a genius (though she is very smart), but without the time that is wasted in traditional school we find she is getting through the program at an accelerated speed.)
With Sydney at UofL for her Senior year and Tatie being homeschooled we are finding it like a breath of fresh air not to have our lives dictated by the public school calendar! Its marvelous really! Sydney and Tatie have discovered volunteer opportunities, family trips are so much easier to plan, and we find we are spending more time together as a family.
So wish us luck in this new adventure called Homeschool!
